Bandipora Special Lok Adalat Settles 704 Cases in a Day

Three benches take up 814 criminal compoundable matters; ₹19.7 lakh realised in settlements

Bandipora, November 22: In a major push towards speedy and conciliatory justice, a Special Lok Adalat dedicated exclusively to criminal compoundable matters was today held across the District Court Complex Bandipora and the Munsiff Courts of the district, resulting in the settlement of 704 cases in a single day.
An official spokesperson said a total of 814 criminal compoundable matters were taken up before the three benches, of which 704 cases were amicably settled, realising a total settlement amount of ₹19,71,187.
The Lok Adalat was organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora  under the patronage of Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Arun Palli, who is also the Patron-in-Chief of the J&K Legal Services Authority, and Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Executive Chairman of the Authority.
 The day-long exercise was supervised by Shazia Tabasum, Member Secretary J&K LSA, and Mir Wajahat, Principal District and Sessions Judge Bandipora and In-charge Chairman of DLSA Bandipora. Operational arrangements were coordinated by Sheikh Babar Hussain, Secretary DLSA Bandipora.
To ensure quick and efficient disposal of cases, three dedicated benches were constituted across the district courts. The first bench was presided over by Principal District and Sessions Judge Mir Wajahat, with Advocate Malik Mushtaq as member.
      The second bench was headed by Amandeep Singh (Munsiff/JMIC and Chairman TLSC Bandipora) with Additional Special Mobile Magistrate Mehak Mehboob as member while the third bench was set up in Sumbal and led by Mushtaq Ahmad Hurra, President of the Bar Association Sumbal, with Assistant Public Prosecutor Bashir Ahmad Bhat serving as bench member.
The District Legal Services Authority Bandipora expressed gratitude to the judicial officers, bench members, prosecution officials, Bar members, court staff and litigants for their cooperation in ensuring the smooth conduct of the Special Lok Adalat.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to promoting participatory justice, reducing case pendency through lawful mediation and strengthening public trust in the justice delivery system.
