Bandipora, 22 Jan: The residents of Bandipora on Tuesday appealed Governor Administration to sanction a Women’s Degree College in Bandipora.

The Residents of Bandipora especially those of Bandipora town, Nadihal, Gamroo, Papchan and Lowdara are up in arms against the authorities as their long pending demand has not been fulfilled. “Bandipora qualifies for having a Women’s Degree College but the authorities have listened to the demands of the politicians and not applied the mind by not taking the ground realities in consideration, locals said. “Instead of announcing two degree colleges, one college should have been established exclusively for women”.

Locals said Government Higher Secondary School Nadihal is one of the oldest schools in Kashmir which was established in 1930's and has land available for establishing a Degree College. “It would have been appropriate to establish Degree College in Bandipora in view of its central location and huge population,” said Mohammad Akbar, a resident.

He said the female students from Gamroo, Papchan, Gundpora, Aragam, Chitteybandy have to travel all along to Srinagar for higher education after class XII as it takes less time to reach Srinagar than to GDC Bandipora which is inaccessible.

Former MLA Bandipora Usman Majid said that Women College for Bandipora is need of hour and a long pending demand of the people of Bandipora. He said he had made a charter of demands to the state government in this connection through various Platforms.

Majid said that, despite being an educationally uncovered zone, the area is producing competent teachers, professors and lecturers in different fields who wholeheartedly are doing a great job in the education sector. While reiterating his demand for establishing the college for women in Bandipora, he urged the Governor of J&K to fulfill the long pending demand of the people of Bandipora at an earliest, “so that like other parts of the state, female students get their separate college in Bandipora,” .
