Bandipora, Feb 12: Bandipora Police on Wednesday attached the immovable property of an alleged drug peddler at Ward No. 5, Sheikh Mohalla, Bandipora, under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Police said the attached property—a three-storey residential house with an attic—belongs to Mohammad Shafi Sheikh, son of Mohammad Shahbaz Sheikh, a resident of Sheikh Mohalla. The attachment was carried out under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985, following due legal procedure.
According to police, the accused is involved in multiple NDPS cases registered at Police Station Bandipora, including FIR No. 110/2022 and FIR No. 183/2022, both under Sections 8, 20 and 29 of the NDPS Act. During the course of investigation and enquiry, the property was identified as illegally acquired and prima facie found to have been raised through proceeds generated from illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
Police further said that the accused had earlier been detained under the PIT-NDPS Act and lodged at Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu, and has since been released.
The police action has been welcomed by local residents of the area, who hailed the attachment of properties allegedly raised through drug trafficking, terming it a strong deterrent against the growing drug menace in the district.
Bandipora Police reiterated their commitment to intensify action against drug peddlers and to dismantle the financial networks supporting narcotics trade in the district.
