Bandipora Police Arrests Youth for Glorifying Separatist Leaders on Social Media
Bandipora, April 2 – Bandipora Police have booked and arrested a person for allegedly glorifying Mohammad Yasin Malik, head of the banned outfit Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), and other separatist leaders on social media.
An official spokesperosn of the Bandipora Police said during routine cyber surveillance and patrolling, the police identified a social media account posting content that promoted militancy and extremist ideologies. The accused, identified as Sajad Naseer Bhat alias Sahil, son of Naseer Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Naidkhai Sumbal, had reportedly uploaded images of Yasin Malik and other separatist figures with the intent to disturb public order.
Following the discovery, police arrested the individual and registered a case under FIR No. 65/2025 at Police Station Sumbal under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66 of the IT Act. “Further investigation into the matter is underway”.
Bandipora Police have intensified monitoring of social media platforms to detect and take action against individuals engaged in spreading extremist content, inciting violence, or attempting to disrupt public order.
“Any attempt to glorify terrorism, promote secessionist ideologies, or spread misinformation against national integrity will be dealt with strictly under the law,” a police spokesperson said.
The police have urged social media users to act responsibly and refrain from engaging in activities that violate legal and ethical norms. They have also warned that stringent legal action, including prosecution under relevant laws, will be taken against those misusing digital platforms for unlawful purposes.
