Srinagar, June 3: In a key initiative aimed at advancing youth empowerment and rural development in Jammu and Kashmir, a delegation from Bandipora led by renowned social activist and Chief of Empowering Kashmir, Saheer Rather, called on Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar.

Satish Sharma, who holds charge of multiple portfolios including Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs; Transport; Science & Technology; Information Technology; Youth Services & Sports; and ARI & Trainings, held detailed deliberations with the delegation.

During the meeting, Saheer Rather submitted a comprehensive proposal, with a special focus on setting up a BPO unit at Chitti Bandi in Bandipora. The initiative aims to create local employment opportunities, particularly for unemployed youth and members of the tribal community.

He also proposed the development of water sports infrastructure and a playground near Wullar Lake, highlighting the potential to boost local tourism and provide constructive recreational spaces for youth.

Expressing deep concern over the rising issues of unemployment, drug abuse, and lack of structured youth engagement, Rather called for targeted interventions to address these challenges.

“The youth are the future of the nation. It is our collective responsibility to guide, support, and empower them through sustainable and meaningful opportunities,” he said.

Other key proposals presented during the meeting included Revival of neglected tourist destinations in Bandipora, Implementation of anti-drug awareness and rehabilitation programs, and Promotion of local job creation through skill development and micro-enterprise support.

According to the statement, the Minister Satish Sharma appreciated the proactive efforts of the delegation and assured his full support in taking the proposed initiatives forward.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to uplifting rural areas, enhancing youth participation, and fostering collaborative partnerships with civil society stakeholders.

“The government welcomes such grassroots-level proposals and remains focused on developing a self-reliant and progressive Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

The meeting reflects a growing synergy between civil society leaders and the government in shaping inclusive policies and addressing the aspirations of the region’s youth.
