Bandipora, Dec 13: Former Minister and ex-MLA Bandipora, Usman Majid, on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the ruling NC–Congress dispensation, accusing it of systematically neglecting Bandipora and betraying the trust of the people through unfulfilled promises and ineffective representation.

Before the commencement of the programme, a condolence meeting was held in which a resolution was unanimously passed to pay rich tributes to departed party colleagues and close associates of Usman Majid’s cadre.

The resolution recalled their selfless contributions and dedicated services to the party and the overall development of Bandipora, remembering them as committed workers who devoted their lives to the welfare of the people and passed away in Bandipora.

Subsequently, Usman Majid convened a meeting of Halaqa Presidents at his office in Bandipora to review the prevailing political and developmental scenario of the constituency. Addressing party workers, the former Minister expressed deep anguish over what he described as the complete absence of visible development in Bandipora since the present elected representatives assumed office.

He said Bandipora today stands as a glaring symbol of neglect, with no meaningful work on the ground and no effective leadership presence among the people. “There is neither accountability nor representation. Bandipora has been pushed to the margins,” Majid remarked, adding that public resentment has reached such levels that if elections were held today, the sitting MLA would struggle to even secure 5,000 votes.

Launching a sharp attack on the NC–Congress coalition government, Usman Majid accused it of deceiving the people of Jammu and Kashmir by making tall promises during elections and abandoning them thereafter.

He said assurances such as restoration of statehood, 200 units of free electricity, and free LPG cylinders were used to mislead voters, but none of these commitments have been fulfilled. “What was promised was never delivered. The truth now stands exposed before the people of J&K,” he said.

Majid further stated that this betrayal has disproportionately affected the poor and marginalized sections, pushing them into deeper distress. He alleged that deception has become a hallmark of National Conference politics, adding that the government has completely turned its back on the aspirations of the people.

Calling upon party workers to intensify grassroots engagement, Usman Majid urged them to remain closely connected with the masses and act as a bridge between the people and governance. “Stay with the people, be available to every citizen of Bandipora, and ensure their genuine issues are raised and addressed,” he stressed.

The meeting concluded with a resolve to strengthen organisational structure at the grassroots level and continue the struggle for justice, dignity and equitable development for the people of Bandipora.
