Bandipora Admin Recommends Impounding of 5 Passports, Flags 259 Aadhaar Cards

Bandipora, June 27: The district administration Bandipora has recommended impounding passports of five notorious drug peddlers and black listing of 259 Aadhaar Cards belonging notorious drug peddlers of the district besides recommending cancellation of 53 driving license during the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) campaign against drug abuse.

       This was revealed during a meeting of the District-Level NCORD Committee chaired by Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Indu Kanwal Chib and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bandipora, Ajaz Ahmad Zargar, at the Mini Secretariat to review NDPS/PIT NDPS cases and assess the implementation of anti-drug measures across the district.

Simultaneously, the district has carried out 38,745 awareness and outreach activities, reaching over 29 lakh people.

According to the data presented, district administration has made recommendations for the cancellation of 53 driving licences, impounding of five passports and flagging of 259 Aadhaar cards linked to drug-related offences.

The DM Indu Kanwal directed the concerned departments to expedite these actions, including the cancellation of arms licences, in accordance with prescribed procedures.

District Information Officer Bandipora, Aadil Manzoor Wani, informed the meeting that 38,745 awareness and outreach activities had been conducted across the district, reaching over 29 lakh people.

Major initiatives included Dosti Discussions in schools and colleges, NMBA wall-painting campaigns, Nun Chai Talks, awareness through Friday sermons, Mega Pad Yatras and extensive IEC activities.

Earlier during the meeting, the SSP presented a police station-wise status of FIRs registered under the NDPS and PIT NDPS Acts, highlighting significant recoveries of charas, ganja, heroin and contraband tablets.

The meeting was informed that FIRs related to poppy cultivation had witnessed a significant increase in 2026 compared to previous years.

The SSP also briefed the committee on action taken to freeze and attach the financial assets of drug traffickers. Several movable and immovable properties belonging to drug peddlers have been attached, while two structures raised on encroached state land were demolished.

According to the data presented, recommendations have been made for the cancellation of 53 driving licences, impounding of five passports and flagging of 259 Aadhaar cards linked to drug-related offences. The DM directed the concerned departments to expedite these actions, including the cancellation of arms licences, in accordance with prescribed procedures.

Deputy Director Prosecution apprised the meeting of the status of acquittals, bail cases and ongoing court proceedings. Stressing the need for stronger legal follow-up, the DM directed timely challenges to bail orders before competent courts wherever warranted.

The Excise Department presented its report on action against illicit crop cultivation, while the Assistant Drug Controller briefed the meeting on inspections conducted at medical shops and enforcement measures against violations. The DM directed strict implementation of the Computerised Billing System and installation of CCTV cameras in all medical establishments.

The Medical Officer, Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF), informed the meeting that a significant number of new patients had been registered since the launch of the NMBA campaign, alongside a substantial number of follow-up consultations and counselling sessions. The officer also reported steady growth in patient registrations since the ATF’s inception, with many beneficiaries currently receiving Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST).

The meeting further reviewed the status of CCTV installation in educational institutions and implementation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, and the Juvenile Justice Act (JJA), 2015. The DM directed all concerned departments to ensure strict compliance and expedite CCTV installation in schools, colleges and coaching centres.

Emphasising the need for sustained and coordinated action, the DM called for continuous monitoring and proactive inter-departmental coordination to curb drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the district effectively.

Reviewing awareness initiatives, she directed all departments to intensify grassroots campaigns and ensure regular anti-drug programmes in wards and Panchayats. She also stressed sustained engagement with religious leaders, educational institutions and community organisations to strengthen public awareness and maintain the momentum generated under the ongoing 100-Day NMBA campaign.
