Bandipora admin observes International Day against Drug Abuse, Illicit Trafficking
Bandipora, June 26: The Bandipora district administration on Monday commemorated the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at the Conference Hall of Mini Secretariat Bandipora
The event, organized by the District Drug De-Addiction Centre (DDAC) in collaboration with the District Administration Bandipora, Department of Social Welfare Bandipora, and Implementing Agency – JKSWM, aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and promote a drug-free society.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Senior Superintendent of Police Lakshay Sharma
Additional District Development Commissioner, Ali Afsar Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora, Umar Shafi Pandith, DPO Mohammad Ashraf Hakak Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad District Social Welfare Officer Ubaid ul Khazir and other senior officers of the district were present on the occasion while Manager DDAC Rehana Akhter warmly welcomed the guests, speakers and participants.
On the occasion, Dr. Owais Ahmed highlighted the need for collective efforts to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking. He emphasized the role of community engagement, education, and rehabilitation programs in eradicating this menace from society.
SSP Bandipora, Lakshay Sharma also addressed the gathering, sharing insights from the law enforcement perspective and stressing the importance of creating a safe and drug-free environment for the younger generation.
Various experts from the medical and counseling fields contributed to the event by sharing their knowledge and experiences.
Dr. Umair Quyoom, Medical Officer, ATF Bandipora, Junaid, Counselor, ATF Bandipora, Adv. Mudasir Nazir, Counselor, DDAC Bandipora, and Dr. Showkat Ahmad, Clinical Psychologist at DEIC Bandipora, delivered insightful talks on the medical , psychological, and physical impacts of drug abuse and the available support services for addicts seeking recovery.
Miss Sameena Shafi, a nurse at DDAC Bandipora, skillfully anchored the program, ensuring a smooth flow of events.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Jawahar Ahmad, Outreach Worker, DDAC Bandipora, expressing gratitude to all the participants, organizers, and supporters for their valuable contributions to the event.
The commemoration also featured cultural performances and a skit by students from IDPS Bandipora and Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Bandipora. Student speakers from NM Higher Secondary School Bandipora delivered compelling speeches on the significance of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
As part of the awareness campaign, DDAC Bandipora distributed posters and pamphlets to educate the public about the dangers of drug abuse and the resources available for those seeking help.
