Azad Stadium Khrew Hosts Asadullah Wani Memorial Sports Festival

PAMPORE, April 28: Azad Stadium in Khrew, Pampore, came alive today with the vibrant spirit of sports and environmental awareness as it hosted the Asadullah Wani Memorial cum Tribute Sports Festival and Plantation Drive.

The event was organized by Urfan Ahmad Wani in memory of his late father, Asadullah Wani, a revered figure known for his contributions to community development and sports promotion.

A large number of students from Islamia Public School Khrew (IPSK) and North Top Institute (NTI) Khrew participated enthusiastically, filling the stadium with youthful energy and competitive zeal.

Mohammad Amin Bhat, Chairman of Auqaf Islamia Khrew, was the chief guest on the occasion, accompanied by several notable dignitaries, including Er Javaid Hakeem, Abdul Aziz Wani, Ghulam Nabi Wani, Haji Wali Mohammad, officials from Police Station Khrew, the Chairman of Peoples Welfare Trust Khrew, and administrators and escort teachers from IPSK and NTI. Organizer Urfan Ahmad Wani welcomed all guests with floral bouquets, setting a warm and respectful tone for the event.

The sporting competitions were conducted under the expert supervision of Syed Masrat Hussain Indrabi (Ex-ZEPO) and M.A. Bhat (Coordinator Sports, Zone Pampore), ensuring a smooth and spirited contest across various disciplines.

Alongside the sports activities, a plantation drive was also held to promote environmental consciousness among the youth. Medals were distributed to participants, and refreshments were provided, making the day both rewarding and memorable.

Speaking to Kashmir Convener, M.A. Bhat, Coordinator Sports Zone Pampore, said, “In today’s society, where drug abuse is a growing concern, we aimed to teach children how to stay away from drugs, reduce screen time, limit mobile phone usage, and remain happy and healthy. Through this event, we worked to help children develop physically, mentally, and socially.”

Bhat also appreciated the efforts of different masters and trainers, especially Masrat Hussain Andrabi, for conducting various activities and cultural programs. “Such events must continue in the future to ensure our children remain mentally fit and healthy,” he said.
