Bandipora, April 21: An awareness programme on drug abuse was organised today at the HKM College Auditorium in Bandipora under the aegis of NCORD Cell and NSS Units as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA).
Held under the guidance of Principal, Prof. Suresh Kumar Dogra, the programme aimed at sensitising students and the academic community about the growing menace of substance abuse and the need for a collective response.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Bandipora, Mir Murtaza Hussain, who was the Guest of Honour on the occasion, delivered an insightful address highlighting the extent of drug abuse at regional and national levels. He elaborated on the legal provisions related to narcotics and stressed the importance of public cooperation in effectively tackling the issue. He also apprised the participants about various initiatives undertaken by law enforcement agencies in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion, the Principal emphasised the pivotal role of youth in curbing drug abuse and underscored the responsibility of educational institutions in promoting awareness, discipline and moral values among students.
Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Parey, Coordinator NMBA activities, also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of awareness, early intervention and community participation in addressing the issue of drug abuse.
Students participated actively in the programme and presented thought-provoking views on the social, psychological and economic consequences of drug addiction.
The programme concluded with a renewed pledge to work collectively towards a drug-free society.
