Awantipora Police Solve Two Theft Cases, Two Arrested

 Pulwama, March 27: Police in Awantipora on Thursday said they have solved two theft cases registered under FIR Nos. 62/2026 and 67/2026 at Police Station Awantipora, arresting two accused and recovering stolen property, including livestock and cash.

 

According to police, the breakthrough came during an investigation led by SHO Police Station Awantipora, Inspector Aijaz Ahmad, along with Incharge Police Post Toll Plaza, Sub-Inspector Ishfaq Ahmad. Officials said the team used CCTV footage from multiple locations and other investigative techniques to identify the suspects.

 

The arrested accused have been identified as Mohd Lateef Pathan, a resident of Lanilab Mujhpathri, Khansahib in Budgam district, and Sahil Nissar Sheikh, a resident of Arampora, Qamarwari. Police said that during interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in the thefts.

 

Stolen property, including two calves and cash amounting to ₹1.30 lakh, described as proceeds of the theft, has been recovered. Police also seized two vehicles allegedly used in the commission of the crime — an auto bearing registration number JK01AU-9241 and a Tata 207 vehicle bearing registration number JK05B-2671.

 

Police said another accused, identified as Waseem Sheikh, is absconding and efforts are underway to secure his arrest.

 

Officials further stated that Mohd Lateef Pathan is a habitual offender, with more than 18 criminal cases registered against him at various police stations across the Kashmir Valley.

 

Further investigation is underway, and police said additional arrests and recoveries are expected.

 

Police have appealed to the public to share any information regarding the absconding accused, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
