Awantipora, Pampore Celebrate 79th Independence Day with Patriotic Zeal

Pampore, Aug 15: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with fervour across Awantipora and Pampore, with flag hoisting ceremonies, parades, and tributes to freedom fighters held at multiple venues.
The main function was held at District Police Lines Awantipora, where Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Mushtaq Ahmad Lone unfurled the National Flag, inspected the parade, and took the ceremonial salute. The event featured contingents from District Police Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police, CRPF, Women Police, Home Guards, and school students. The parade was commanded by DySP (P) Shravan Singh.
In his address, ADC Lone extended Independence Day greetings and paid homage to national leaders and freedom fighters including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Bhagat Singh. He also highlighted developmental achievements in education, healthcare, agriculture, rural development, and infrastructure in Awantipora and Pampore. Cultural programmes and prize distributions were cancelled in solidarity with victims of the recent cloudburst in Kishtwar.
Flag hoisting ceremonies were also held at Tehsil Office Pampore, Townhall Pampore, Block Office Pampore, Police Station Pampore, Khrew, various educational institutions, AIIMS Awantipora, IUST Awantipora, JKEDI Pampore, and other government offices.
At the Court Complex Pampore, Ms. Uzma Amin, Chairperson, Tehsil Legal Services Committee, unfurled the National Flag in the presence of advocates, law enforcement officials, and community members. She urged citizens to uphold the constitutional principles of justice, liberty, and equality.
At the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora, Vice Chancellor Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo led the celebrations, emphasising the role of higher education institutions in achieving the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 and addressing societal challenges such as drug abuse.
The Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) Pampore also marked the occasion with flag hoisting by its Director, followed by the national anthem, in the presence of staff and local dignitaries.
Elaborate security arrangements were in place, and a large number of people attended the celebrations across the two towns.
