Pampore, Sept 2: The office of the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Pulwama, in collaboration with the Health Department, on Tuesday organised a free medical camp at Nund Reshi Sumo Stand in Pampore to ensure the health and roadworthiness of professional drivers.
More than 83 drivers and conductors from Tehsil Pampore underwent comprehensive health checkups, which included eye examinations, blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar screening, and general health assessments. Officials said these tests are critical to assess the medical fitness of drivers and thereby contribute to road safety.
“This was the third such camp held in Pulwama district in the last two months,” officials told Kashmir Convener, adding that similar initiatives will be extended to other Tehsils, including Awantipora, in the coming weeks.
President of Nund Reshi Sumo Stand, Ashiq Hussain Bhat, expressed gratitude to ARTO Pulwama, Mahnaz Chishti, for organising the camp. “We are very grateful to ARTO Pulwama Mahnaz Chishti for conducting this free medical camp, which proved highly beneficial for drivers. This is the first such initiative held here, and she has been continuously cooperating with us. We sincerely thank her for this support,” he said.
Authorities said more such camps will be held regularly to ensure drivers remain medically fit and to strengthen efforts aimed at reducing accidents caused by health-related issues.
