Bandipora, April 01: The office of the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Bandipora on Tuesday organised a road safety awareness camp at Space Age Higher Secondary School as part of activities under National Road Safety Month 2026.

The programme was attended by students, teaching staff and officials of the Motor Vehicles Department. The session began with an overview of road safety and the need for responsible behaviour among road users, particularly students.

Officials from ARTO Bandipora delivered lectures on traffic regulations and safe driving practices. Participants were briefed on the importance of wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers, using seat belts in vehicles, adhering to speed limits and following traffic signals. The speakers also highlighted risks associated with reckless driving, use of mobile phones while driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

An interactive session was held during which students raised questions related to road safety and traffic rules. Officials addressed the queries and provided practical guidance on preventive measures. Awareness material, including banners and visual displays, was used to reinforce key safety messages.

School authorities and other attendees acknowledged the initiative and underscored the need for continued awareness programmes to promote responsible conduct among young road users.

The camp concluded with a pledge by students and participants to follow traffic regulations and support efforts aimed at improving road safety in the district. Officials stated that similar programmes will be conducted as part of ongoing awareness initiatives.
