Bandipora, April 06: Acting on the directions of the Transport Commissioner and RTO Kashmir, ARTO Bandipora Mukhtar Ahmad Sofi on Monday conducted a special enforcement drive to check traffic rule violations in the district.

An official spokesperson said multiple nakas were established at various locations along the Srinagar–Bandipora Road and Bandipora–Sopore Road.

Giving details about the drive, ARTO Bandipora said that over 253 vehicles were inspected during the drive, out of which 62 were challaned for various violations. “A total fine of ₹1.23 lakh was realised, while five driving licences were recommended for suspension”.

On the occasion, the ARTO, along with Motor Vehicles Inspector Lateef Ahmad Wani, interacted with private and commercial drivers and sensitised them about adherence to traffic regulations.
They urged drivers to strictly follow safety norms, including the mandatory use of seat belts, and to ensure proper maintenance and regular check-ups of their vehicles.

Highlighting road safety concerns, the ARTO said that a majority of accidents are occurring due to the use of mobile phones while driving. He advised motorists to park their vehicles before attending important calls.

“There is nothing more valuable than your life. It is you who must ensure your own safety, as using a mobile phone while driving is proving suicidal,” he said.
