Bandipora, Jan 15: Indian Army’s Wular Battalion, in collaboration with Hassan Shah Khuehami Memorial Government Degree College Bandipora on Thursday organised a community outreach programme titled “DOSTI” at Eco Park Chandaji to strengthen engagement between the armed forces and the local community, with a special focus on youth.

An official spokesperson said around 120 students from HKM College Putushai participated in the day-long programme, which aimed to foster trust, mutual understanding and goodwill through informal interaction and cultural exchange.

The students were taken to Chandaji Park, where they spent the day interacting with Army personnel in an open and inclusive environment.

Spokesperson said the programme was held under the guidance of College Principal Prof. Suresh Kumar Dogra and NSS Programme Officers. The programme featured cultural performances and recreational activities.

Students presented a range of performances, including a naat by Ms Airzoo, a solo dance by Mr Majid, a solo song by Nihaal, and a Kashmiri folk Rouff performed by Ms Fiza and her group. The Rouff performance, rooted in local tradition, received special appreciation. Games and a tug-of-war competition were also organised, adding to the spirit of teamwork and camaraderie.

An interactive session between students and officers and personnel of 27 Assam Rifles formed a key component of the programme. The interaction provided students with insights into the role of the armed forces in nation-building and encouraged open dialogue, helping build confidence and mutual respect.

Local residents, volunteers and social activists also participated, lending the event a broader community character. The informal setting allowed free interaction between participants and Army personnel, contributing to positive engagement and people-to-people connect.

The programme was coordinated by NSS Programme Officer Prof. Irfan Ahmad Wagay in coordination with officers of 27 Assam Rifles.

Students and community representatives described the initiative as people-centric, stating that it reinforced values of unity, brotherhood, social harmony and national integration, while strengthening the bond between the Indian Army and the local population.
