Jammu, Mar 10 : In a major success for security forces, the Indian Army gunned down a terrorist after foiling an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district on Tuesday.

Meanwhile a massive search operation was launched in the Samba district following the detection of suspected drone movements near the International Border (IB), official sources said.

An official told Kashmir Convener that alert troops of the Army’s White Knight Corps, acting on specific intelligence inputs, observed suspicious movement of two to three terrorists in the Jhangar area of Nowshera around 3 pm. As the troops moved to intercept, the infiltrators opened fire, triggering an encounter. In the ensuing operation, one terrorist was neutralized, while the others managed to flee back under the cover of fire or into the dense forest area.

“The infiltration bid was successfully foiled due to the swift and alert response of our troops” an official said.

He said the entire area has been cordoned off, and a relentless search operation is underway to track any remaining terrorists. Aerial surveillance has been pressed into service to assist the ground forces and ensure no breach along the LoC he added.

In a related development, heightened security measures were put in place across the Rajouri and Poonch sectors following the incident.

Security forces launched a massive search operation in the Daboh area of Samba district late Monday night after suspected drone activity was reported near the International Border.

Officials stated that the movement of a suspected drone was picked up by security agencies, prompting an immediate response. Additional forces were rushed to the spot, and a thorough search of the area was initiated to rule out any dropping of weapons, explosives, or narcotics.

“The search operation is continuing to ensure that no contraband or lethal material has been dropped. The situation is under close watch,” an official said, adding that counter-drone measures have been intensified along the border.

Recent years have witnessed a spike in attempts by anti-national elements to use drones for ferrying arms and narcotics into the Jammu region, prompting security agencies to bolster their anti-drone capabilities and maintain high vigilance.

Official sources added that security forces remain on high alert across the Union Territory following intelligence inputs about active terrorist launch pads across the border. Surveillance and patrolling have been significantly intensified along the LoC and the IB in sensitive sectors like Samba, Jammu, Rajouri, and Kupwara to thwart any nefarious designs from across the border.
