POONCH, July 21: The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps launched a series of swift humanitarian assistance operations across the Rajouri-Poonch region following heavy rainfall, flash floods and infrastructure damage, restoring connectivity, clearing blocked roads and providing emergency medical care to affected residents.
At Jaran Wali Gali in Poonch, the boundary wall of PM SHRI Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya collapsed onto several parked vehicles, creating an immediate hazard and blocking movement on National Highway-144A. Army personnel reached the spot promptly and, using specialised equipment, cleared the debris, extricated the trapped vehicles and assisted local residents. Their timely intervention restored traffic on the highway and prevented further disruption.
In another operation near Khari Karmara, heavy rains and strong currents damaged a vital bridge, severing connectivity to nearby areas. Working in coordination with 79 Road Construction Company (Border Roads Organisation) and local residents, troops of the White Knight Corps restored the damaged link within three hours despite adverse weather conditions, enabling the resumption of essential movement.
Meanwhile, after a flash flood washed away an iron bridge at Dara Sangla, leaving the village cut off from medical assistance, an Indian Army medical team crossed the flooded stream using an improvised wooden log bridge to reach the affected population.
The team conducted rapid medical assessment, administered first aid to an injured civilian and distributed essential medicines to women, children and other villagers, helping avert further health complications.
The Indian Army said the operations reflected its preparedness and commitment to assisting civil authorities during emergencies. Through rapid rescue, restoration and medical assistance, the troops ensured public safety, restored critical connectivity and extended timely support to affected families.
The coordinated response also highlighted strong civil-military cooperation and reinforced the enduring bond of trust between the Indian Army, civil agencies and local communities across the Rajouri-Poonch region. – (PIB)
