New Delhi, Jan 13:  In a stern warning, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi reaffirmed the military’s high state of readiness and commitment to a decisive response to any provocation.

His remarks came during the Indian Army Chief’s annual press conference for 2026. As per Kashmir Convener Correspondent, General Dwivedi stated that Operation Sindoor remains ongoing, underscoring the army’s preparedness to respond firmly to any future misadventures from Pakistan.

“Operation Sindoor was the best example of tri-service synergy under clear-cut political directives and full freedom to act,” he said.

Highlighting the coordinated efforts behind the operation, General Dwivedi acknowledged, “As you may be aware, Operation Sindoor remains ongoing, and any future misadventure will be resolutely met. I must recognize the proactive role of all stakeholders at the national level, including the Central Armed Police Forces, intelligence agencies, civic bodies, state administrations, and other ministries, whether from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Railways, or elsewhere.”

Addressing the situation along the Northern Front, General Dwivedi stated, “The situation along the Northern Front remains stable but requires constant vigilance. Apex-level interactions, renewed contact, and confidence-building measures are contributing to a gradual normalization, which has also enabled grazing, hydrotherapy camps, and other activities along the Northern Borders. With our continued strategic focus on this front, our deployment along the Line of Actual Control remains balanced and robust. Concurrently, capability development and infrastructure enhancement are progressing through a whole-of-government approach.”

Reflecting on the year 2025, he added, “The past year saw a sharp rise in the number and intensity of armed conflicts worldwide. These global shifts underline a simple reality: nations that stay prepared prevail. Against this backdrop, Operation Sindoor—India’s calibrated and resolute response to cross-border terrorism—demonstrated our readiness, precision, and strategic clarity. Through our various initiatives under ‘JAI’—Jointness, Atmanirbharta, and Innovation—a clarion call given by the Prime Minister in September 2025, along with the year of reforms announced by the Raksha Mantri in January 2025 and the Indian Army’s own decade of transformation, we can be justifiably satisfied with the progress made during 2025.”

The Army Chief also highlighted a significant decline in terrorist activity in Jammu and Kashmir.  General Dwivedi said that approximately 31 terrorists have been neutralized so far this year, 61 percent of whom were Pakistani nationals. “Today, there are no stone-throwing incidents and no sloganeering,” he stated, emphasizing India’s readiness to respond to any form of warfare. “Those who promote and sponsor terrorism will be given a befitting reply,” he asserted.

General Dwivedi described Operation Sindoor as “just a trailer,” noting it concluded within 88 hours. He made it clear that India is prepared for any future circumstances and warned that if Pakistan ever commits a misdeed, the Indian Armed Forces would compel the neighboring nation to behave responsibly.

The Army Chief reiterated that state-sponsored terrorism remains a concern for India, which remains committed to progress and development. “As far as the new normal is concerned,” he said, “India has always maintained that water and blood cannot flow together, and talks and terror cannot coexist.”
