Army celebrates Martyrs day with Veteran Porters in Gurez valley
Bandipora, January 31: Indian Army stationed at Kanzalwan village in Gurez Valley near Line of Control (LoC) on Sunday celebrated the Martyrs Day with veteran potters of the village to recognize their services towards the nation and the army.
An official spokesperson said to recognise the invaluable contribution of porters towards assisting in the defence of the nation and their patriotism, the Indian Army at Kanzalwan organised an event to felicitate veteran porters and gave them a platform to share their incredible experiences during the past battles as part of Martyrs Day commemoration on 30 Jan 22.
Porters who had assisted the Indian Army during their prime and had even participated in 1965 war ,1971 Indo – Pak War and Op Vijay proudly participated in the event.
The porters shared their experiences of working with Indian Army and called it a sacred bond. The porters recalled bonhomie and respect they have received during their times with the Indian Army.
The Army also appreciated the critical role being played by porters and called it an unbreakable bond. To culminate the event a Bara khana was organised for all porters at Kanzalwan and gifts were distributed to veteran porters.
Officials said the event not only strengthened the bond between Awam and Jawan but also helped the youth to understand the sacrifices of their elders in building the trust and bond that currently exists in the region
