Arin residents aghast over ‘favouritism’ of RDD in execution of works

Bandipora, May 5: Residents of Malikpora, located in the Arin block, have accused the Rural Development Department (RDD) of favouritism and arbitrariness in the execution of a link road from Arin to Sumlar village through Apple orchards.
The villagers had been demanding a proper bank over an irrigation canal passing through the upper side of their village, which has been causing them great distress. During rainfall, the temporary bank discharges water, resulting in flooding in their homes and on the road.
Earlier this year, the RDD sanctioned a road parallel to the canal to prevent damage to the road, crops, and orchards. However, when the road reached the upper side of Malikpora, the RDD left the canal on the same side as the village, where it had been originally.
Despite repeated requests to the DDC Arin, the residents claimed that he has not paid any attention to their demands. They also alleged that the DDC changed the path of the canal only for the residents of Arin, who are his own people, and thus showed favouritism.
One of the locals reported that during rainfall, water leaks from the canal due to its temporary bank, causing headaches for the villagers. They have been making temporary arrangements themselves to stop the water.
The residents further stated that the RDD officials did not consult them before changing the path of the canal, and they feel betrayed by the department. They expressed concern about the impact of the canal's presence on their health and livelihood, as it has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects. The villagers also highlighted the potential damage to their apple orchards due to the canal's presence, which could impact their income. They urged the authorities to address their concerns and take appropriate action to rectify the situation.
The residents have appealed to the DC Bandipora to take immediate action against the RDD officials involved in the matter.
