Miran Sahib, Sept 22: Army Public School Miran Sahib hosted the Inter-APS Cluster I English Debate Competition on Tuesday, with students from eight Army Public Schools participating in a debate on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on future employment.
APS Jammu Cantt emerged as the winning team, while APS Damana finished runners-up. Prachi of APS Jammu Cantt was adjudged Best Speaker, while Pratham of APS Samba was named Best Interjector.
The debate was held at the school’s Multi-Purpose Hall on the topic, “The Rise of AI is a Threat to Future Jobs.” Participants examined the potential opportunities and challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence and presented arguments and counterarguments on its impact on the future of work.
The students displayed confidence, clarity of thought, persuasive skills and command over the English language. The competition also included interjections and rebuttals, testing the participants’ spontaneity, listening skills and presence of mind.
Colonel Jamwant Singh, Deputy Commander, Miran Sahib Brigade, was the chief guest. Lieutenant Colonel Gurmeet Singh, SO to the Chairman, also attended the event.
The programme began with a digital opening ceremony by the chief guest, followed by a Vandana presented by students.
The competition was adjudged by Dr Jyoti Dutt, Associate Professor of English, Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government PG College for Women; Dr Shakun Mahajan, Assistant Professor at the same institution; and Vinus Sharma, Associate Professor, Government College for Women, Parade Road.
The winners and other awardees were felicitated at the concluding ceremony, where trophies were presented to the winning and runners-up teams.
The school said the competition provided students with an opportunity to develop critical thinking, communication and leadership skills while engaging with opposing viewpoints through informed debate.
