Apni Party petitions GOI for rail link, 4-lanning of Srinagar-Bandipora road
Srinagar, Jan 14: Vice-President of Jammu Kashmir Apni Party and former legislator Usman Majid have written to the Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari and Railway Minsiter Ashwani Vaishnaw, seeking four-laning of the vital Srinagar to Bandipora road and rail connectivity for Bandipora district.
In two separate letters addressed to the Union Ministers, Majid appealed for intervention to commence the essential steps for the four-laning of the Srinagar to Sonarwani road and railway connectivity for the district. He expressed optimism about positive outcomes from dedicated efforts and thanked him for attending to this critical matter.
According to Majid, the Srinagar to Sonarwani road serves not only as a transportation route but also plays a pivotal role in both defence and tourism.
In the letter, the Apni Party Vice-President pointed out the road's strategic importance and its proximity to Wullar Lake, a scenic jewel in the region. Upgrading the road to four lanes, he believes, would not only enhance accessibility but also attract more visitors, promoting the natural beauty and cultural richness of the area.
Majid also underlined the economic impact of improved connectivity, stating that the proposed four-laning would significantly benefit Bandipora, economically and in terms of residents' quality of life
"l am reaching out to you to draw your attention to the urgent need for the four-laning of the road from Srinagar to Sonarwani in Bandipora district. This stretch of road holds immense significance not only from a developmental standpoint but also, crucially, from a defence perspective. As you are weii aware, the geopoliticai landscape in our region demands robust and strategic infrastructure to safeguard the security of our nation," reads the letter.
It also said that the Srinagar to Sonarwani road is not just a conduit for transportation; it holds a pivotal role in both defence and tourism. The strategic importance of this route, particularly in the context of national defence, cannot be overstated.
"In light of the current geopolitical landscape, it is imperative that we fortify our infrastructure to ensure effective emergency responses. Additionally, this road passes along the picturesque banks of Wullar Lake, a jewel in the crown of our region. The tourism potential of this area is immense, and upgrading the road to four lanes will undoubtedly enhance accessibility, attracting more visitors to experience the natural beauty and cultural richness that our region has to offer. Furthermore, the economic impact of improved connectivity cannot be overstated. Bandipora, with its rich cultural heritage and potential for tourism, stands to benefit significantly from enhanced accessibility," it reads.
"The proposed four-lanning will not only boost economic activities but also elevate the quality of life for the residents of the region. I kindly request your esteemed intervention to initiate the necessary steps for the four-lanning of the Srinagar to Sonarwani (Bandipora) road.
