Anantnag residents up in arms against district admin for allowing National Higways’ traffic on Dooru-Veerinag stretch
Anantnag Oct, 25 : The residents of Dooru Shahabad are up in arms against district adminstration Anantnag for illegally allowing heavy weight traffic of National Higway on narrow Dooru-Veerinag stretch leading to huge traffic jams in the area.
The immediate trigger for the anger against district administration is the death of a 4-year-old kid Anzar Ahmad Shah of Nowpora Dooru Anantag who died on way to Hospital while the ambulance stuck in traffic jam.
Locals said the boy swallowed a bean seed that got struck at his throat , the parents tried to rush him towards Dooru Modern hospital immediately but due to heavy traffic jam on Anantnag- Verinag road they were not able to reach the hospital and lost their son .
Locals said the Jammu bound trucks on Srinagar-Jammu national highway take a diversion at Anantnag to skip check post at Qazigund and reach Jawahar tunnel through narrow Anantnag-Dooru-Veerinag stretch. "Truck Drivers take this diversion to avoid check post ar Qazigund as thry are stopped and allowed to cross Jawahar tunnel in phased manner," said a local.
They said the Law Enforcing agencies including Traffic Police, Municipal Committee Dooru and Sub-Divisional administration at Dooru Shahabad allow this illegal practise unabated since a long time that has badly affected the locals.
Residents said due to the diversion of traffic, Anantnag-Dooru stretch witnesses huge traffic jams that has made the life of residents miserable.
Chairman Shahabad Development Forum Zahoor Malik blamed the district Adminstration and Traffic police for the death of the boy on Sunday and demanded compensation for the bereaved family.
He said they have repeatedly requested the adminstration to stop the process of diversion of traffic from this road, but the Adminstration have failed to stop the same and the Municipal Committee Dooru allows it without caring about the sufferings of people esepcially employees, students and patients.
He also warned that if it continues, the people of Dooru and Verinag will come on streets and will be forced to stop this illegal practise themselves. "District adminstration will be wholly responsible for the situation that will arise if people take law in their own hands," he added.
A senior Officials of the district administration said the Deputy Commissioner Anantnag KP Sidha has already directed the law enforcing agencies to stop the illegal practise immediately and asked them to ensure smooth movement of the traffic.
