An open letter to Madam Mehbooba Mufti
Aasima Jan
My today’s write-up is in response to madam mufti’s statement where she has stated that preventing people from participating in funerals is an interference into one's religion. Madam what happened in your tenure as a chief minister is being replicated today. Had you raised this ‘interference into religion’ then, it would have made sense.
Questioning the move at this time lacks seriousness. Madam don’t waste your time and energy by issuing such statements, the current scenario doesn’t support your actions now. Moreover, visiting families of slain people and shedding tears of sympathy is not going to work. Madam, I respected you and your tears that were used as a trump card by you to gain popular support in your game of throne, but now these droplets have lost the magic to befool the masses of this desolate land. Golden times have passed when your party was growing and sowing the seeds of trust among the people who reaffirmed their faith in you through their ballot, the confidence is no longer there it has melted out now.
God bestows every creature with opportunities but you and your party failed to get the best out of them. The lust to be in power blinded your eyes and deafened you to hear the cries and wails of the sufferers. You pretended not to notice that your own people were showered with bullets and pellets to keep a hold on your chair. Madam mufti, we have witnessed your love for the chair that you never wanted to lose, fortunately, or unfortunately you were kicked out of the office by none other than those for whom you betrayed your own people. Now, when the chair is not there, tears definitely are. This time your teary eyes are not going to do wonders as the mindset has changed. This era of your governance will be remembered as the era of brutalities . Your period as a chief minister was the ugliest phase of kashmir entanglement. None were spared; kids blinded, youngsters killed, elderly harassed, homes destroyed and the trust placed in you shattered into pieces.

Madam, a lot has happened since your disgraceful exit from the office, your confidants and most trusted party men of the time holding powerful portfolios in your cabinet abandoned you and now your party is but a castle in ruins. The leftover cadres who claim to be the torch bearers of the ‘Healing Touch’ policy are brimmed with arrogance, which we got to see recently in one of the pressers of the women’s wing president. The video has gone viral on social media where she misbehaved with a journalist. Madam, since the elections are round the corner, it’s better to educate and acquaint your colleagues with etiquette’s rather than visiting the families of the victims of your atrocious rule. This strategy proved useful to you once, but it won’t be so now.
Madam, my write-up is inclined towards the female folk. I appreciate every women who succeeds in a patriarchal society against all the odds. I was very impressed when you took over as the chief minister but with time all my illusions were gone. And now I am literally waiting for Godot with rest of the Kashmiris.
