AMU alumni organizes mega career counseling, medical screening camp
Alumni takes initiative to counsel students, combat substance abuse in Kashmir
Bandipora, July 13: The alumni of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on Thursday organised a career counseling cum guidance and mega medical screening camp in Bandipora under the banner of Sir Syed Educational Trust.
An official spokesperson of the trust said the event was felicitated by the Drug De-Addiction Center in collaboration with District administration Bandipora.
A galaxy of delegates and guests from Bandipora, Kupwara, Baramulla and Srinagar attended this mega event with great zeal and enthusiasm.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad was the chief guest on the occasion and inaugurated the Mega Medical Screening camp conducted by SSET in coordination with Arfat Medical Center Bandipora.
ADC Bandipora Umar Shafi, JDP Imtiyaz Ahmad, Chairman SSET Dr Pervez Maqbool Lone, CEO Mohd Amin Beigh and other officers/ officials of District administration were present on the occasion.
In accordance with AMU tradition, program started with the recitation of Holy Quran. followed by formal welcome address by vice chairman Nayeem Ahmad.
During the proceedings, a brief Power point presentation regarding Historical background, aims, objectives, activities and future road map of Sir Syed Educational Trust, was delivered by Dr Azad Hussain Lone.
During technical sessions, among resource persons Prof Pervez Abdullah BGSBU Rajouri, Prof Tariq Ahmad IUST Kashmir, Dr Aadil Zeffer from USA and experts/ counselors from Drug de addiction center spoke about various aspects of Carter counseling, drug abuse its socio-medical consequences and rehabilitative mechanism during their presentations and lectures.
The official spokesperson mentioned that about 170 students of class 10-12 from different academic institutions attended the counseling sessions and actively participated in Debate/ Quiz competitions held during the event.
A parallel mega medical Screening camp was also conducted by SSET where in specialists of different departments viz Dermatology, Pediatrics, orthopedics, Gynecology, ENT/Ophthalmology, Medicine, Dentistry, RBSK Team, examined and screened the students/ patients who were provided with free health supplements, multivitamins etc.
During the course of deliberations , the Chief education officer applauded and congratulated the members of SSET for initiating this social issue of guiding and supervising poor meritorious downtrodden students by virtue of its key objectives and desired his willingness to support the trust both technically and financially.
On the occasion Chairman SSET Dr Pervez Maqbool Lone recapitulated that this organisation in the form of SSET belongs to all and Kashmir Aligs should come forward with positivity to further strengthen the trust in order to complete the future endeavors to be conducted in near future.
He future stressed upon that apart from other social causes, SSET will continue to work for the welfare of students and education empowerment in the society by conducting guidance, counseling and awareness campaign at Block / District levels in a phase wise manner in order to create awareness/ sensitivity among students about their bright carrier at gross root level.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad appreciated the activities and work done by the trust.
He in his presidential address highlighted various issues of substance abuse and steps taken by the district administration to curb this socio- medical menace in the society. He assured his full support to SSET in future endeavours.
JDP Imtiyaz Ahmad presented a vote of thanks and acknowledged the role of SSET in the context of conducting awareness cum counseling programs to the students at door steps. The entire program was coordinated by Dr Azad Lone.
