New Delhi, March 4: The Jammu & Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Wednesday raised serious concerns with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar over the safety of Indian students stranded in various parts of Iran amid ongoing airstrikes and escalating hostilities.

In a statement, JKSA National Convenor Nasir Khuehami said the Association has been receiving numerous distress calls from parents of Kashmiri students currently residing in cities such as Qom, Urmia, Arak and other regions of Iran. According to the Association, the students are gripped by panic and anxiety due to continuous reports of airstrikes and missile attacks across several areas.

Khuehami stated that many students are living close to sensitive locations and have expressed deep concern for their safety. He said the intensity of explosions reportedly shook buildings, leaving students frightened and emotionally distressed. The persistent sound of explosions and fighter aircraft has created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty, while families back home remain equally anxious about the well-being of their children.

The Association has urged the External Affairs Minister to intervene and facilitate the immediate evacuation of Indian students from Iran or, alternatively, relocate them to safer areas until the situation stabilises. Such a move, it said, would significantly ease the anxiety of hundreds of families awaiting reassurance.

JKSA acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry of External Affairs and the Embassy of India in Tehran for arranging special buses to relocate several students from the worst-affected areas of Tehran to the comparatively safer city of Qom. The intervention, the Association noted, brought relief to many families.

However, it expressed concern that soon after reaching Qom, some students reportedly heard fresh explosions in nearby areas, triggering renewed panic and insecurity.

Given the rapidly evolving situation, JKSA has appealed to the Government of India to closely monitor developments on the ground and prepare contingency plans for the safe evacuation of Indian students at the earliest. Khuehami emphasised that swift and proactive measures would not only ensure students’ safety but also provide much-needed reassurance to their worried families.

“The Association remains hopeful that the Ministry of External Affairs will continue to extend all possible support and take necessary steps to safeguard the lives and well-being of our students during this extremely difficult and uncertain situation,” he added.
