Srinagar, February 24: The Bharti Airtel Foundation and the Indian Army’s Northern Command on Sunday announced an expanded partnership to strengthen academic outcomes and career guidance in Army Goodwill Schools (AGS) across Jammu and Kashmir.

The decision followed a meeting in Udhampur between Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Northern Command, and Binu Nair, Chief Operating Officer of the Foundation.

Officials said the next phase of collaboration will include rollout of structured professional development courses for AGS educators through TheTeacherApp, the Foundation’s digital learning platform. The training modules will align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and focus on foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN), classroom inclusivity, and use of digital and AI-enabled teaching tools.

The programme will combine in-person training sessions with ongoing digital access, aimed at building teacher capacity in remote and underserved areas.

Another key component of the expanded engagement is the establishment of dedicated career counselling cells in Army Goodwill Schools. These cells are expected to provide structured academic guidance and exposure to higher education and vocational pathways for students.

Both sides also agreed to collaborate on introducing niche technology exposure in areas such as robotics and artificial intelligence to equip students with future-ready skills.

Lt Gen Sharma said the partnership has strengthened the academic ecosystem of Army Goodwill Schools and broadened opportunities for students in the region. Nair said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to equitable access to quality education and meaningful career pathways.

The Bharti Airtel Foundation has been working with Northern Command for over nine years under its Quality Support Program to enhance teacher capacity and classroom practices in Army Goodwill Schools across Jammu and Kashmir.
