Airtel Extends Mobile Connectivity to Ladakh’s Remote Border Villages of Man and Merak

Srinagar, Nov 17: Bharti Airtel, one of India’s leading telecommunications service providers, has expanded its network footprint to the remote Ladakh villages of Man and Merak, bringing reliable mobile connectivity for the first time to this strategically vital stretch near the world-famous Pangong Lake.

With this deployment, Airtel has become the only service provider to offer network access in the region, long known for its challenging terrain and complete absence of telecom coverage, officials said.

The newly connected area lies along the corridor between Man and Merak on Ladakh’s eastern border — a nearly 50 km stretch that has for years struggled with zero network availability. The introduction of high-speed mobile services marks a major upgrade for residents, security forces, and the steady flow of tourists visiting the iconic Pangong Tso.

Officials said the rollout is a transformative step, as the entire route between Chushul and Pangong Tso is now connected, significantly enhancing tourism potential and easing communication in one of India’s most remote and sensitive border belts.
