Air Marshal Devendra P Hirani Assumes Charge as SASO, Eastern Air Command

Srinagar, Feb 2: Air Marshal Devendra P Hirani has assumed the appointment of Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) at the Headquarters of Eastern Air Command of the Indian Air Force. He took over the new responsibility on February 1, 2026.
Commissioned into the Indian Air Force on December 15, 1990, Air Marshal Hirani is a Qualified Flying Instructor with nearly 5,000 hours of flying experience on a wide range of helicopters and trainer aircraft.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, he has also undergone professional military education at the Defence Services Staff College, the College of Defence Management and the National Defence College in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
During his distinguished career, the Air Marshal has commanded a training unit as well as key frontline air bases in the Northern Sector. He has held several important staff appointments at Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, Air Headquarters, Command Headquarters and Headquarters Air Officer Commanding Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. He has also served as a DASI inspector.
Air Marshal Hirani has international operational exposure, having served on deputation with the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Prior to his present appointment, he was serving as Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Personnel – Airmen & Civilians) at Air Headquarters.
In recognition of his distinguished service, Air Marshal Hirani was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2015 and the Yudh Seva Medal in 2022
