After 34 Years, Bandipora Police Arrests Six ‘Wanted Fugitives’
Bandipora, Feb 24, 2025: Bandipora Police on Monday claimed to have arrested six absconders who had been on the run for over three decades.
An official spokesperson told Kashmir Convener that the accused, involved in multiple criminal cases dating back to the 1990s, were finally apprehended by a special police team from Police Station Bandipora.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohd Shafi Shah, a resident of Papchan, involved in Case FIR No. 64/1990; Mohd Sadeeq Reshi from Buthoo, linked to Case FIR No. 169/1990; Imtiyaz Ahmad Ganie from Bagh Bandipora, named in Case FIR No. 18/1994; Gh Hassan Khan from Lawaypora, booked under Case FIR No. 29/1991; Fayaz Ahmad Mir from Ward 03 Bandipora, involved in Case FIR No. 07/1990; and Ab Ahad Rather from Arin Bandipora, wanted in Case FIR No. 26/1991.
A police spokesperson confirmed that these individuals had been evading arrest for decades despite sustained efforts.
“Acting on specific intelligence, the special police team tracked down the absconders and successfully arrested them. Following due legal procedures, the accused were produced before the court,” spokesperson added.
He said the arrests mark a major achievement for law enforcement in Bandipora, reinforcing the commitment of the police to bring long-standing fugitives to justice.
Authorities have reiterated their resolve to continue tracking down absconders and ensuring the rule of law.
