Jammu, Feb 7: The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) on February 5 carried out a pan-India hand sanitisation exercise involving defence medical personnel, setting a record for the largest nationwide hand hygiene drive by defence personnel in both the national and Asia categories.

The exercise was organised as part of the Military Nursing Service (MNS) Centenary Year celebrations (2025–26) and was conducted simultaneously across AFMS establishments in the country.

At the 166 Military Hospital in Jammu Cantonment, more than 575 AFMS personnel and civilian staff participated in the exercise, officials said.

According to the AFMS, the initiative was aimed at reinforcing the role of hand hygiene in infection prevention, patient safety and overall quality of healthcare delivery within military medical institutions.

Officials said the exercise also underlined the services’ focus on infection control protocols and standardised public health practices across its healthcare network.

The AFMS provides medical care to serving personnel of the armed forces, veterans and their dependents through a nationwide chain of military hospitals and field medical units.
