Retirement often marks the end of a government career, but in the case of Majeed Majazi, it signifies only the conclusion of his official service, not the end of his contribution to society. As the noted educationist, playwright and author attaining superannuation on July 31, 2026, after 29 years in the School Education Department, he leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond the four walls of a classroom.

Having joined the department in 1997, Majazi is presently serving as Headmaster at Government School Argam. Throughout his career, he earned the respect of colleagues, students and the community for his sincerity, discipline and unwavering commitment to education.

Those who worked with him remember him as an educator who believed that teaching was not merely a profession but a responsibility towards society.

Alongside his academic career, Majazi carved a distinguished place in the literary landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. A prolific playwright and writer, he has authored 17 books, several of which have been included in the curriculum of government schools. His acclaimed works, including Folia Gulan Henz have introduced young readers to the richness of the Kashmiri language and literature.

His contribution to literature has earned recognition well beyond the Valley. In 2021, he was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar for his Kashmiri children’s short story collection “Folai Gulan Henz”, a work widely appreciated for its contribution to children’s literature in the Kashmiri language.

Besides his literary achievements, Majazi has been honoured with the Best Teacher Award by administration in recognition of his services in the field of education. His contribution to theatre has also earned him the Best Theatre Director Award from the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.

The awards stands as a testament to his literary excellence and his lifelong dedication to nurturing young minds through creative writing.

Majazi’s contribution, however, cannot be measured by books alone. His plays have been staged on various platforms across Jammu and Kashmir, drawing appreciation from audiences and literary circles alike for their powerful themes, cultural depth and authentic portrayal of Kashmiri society.

Through theatre, he has brought literature closer to the people while preserving the linguistic and cultural ethos of the region.

For years, he has remained at the forefront of efforts to promote and preserve the Kashmiri language. At a time when regional languages face growing challenges, Majazi continued to write, mentor and inspire, ensuring that Kashmiri literature remained vibrant and relevant for future generations.

As he lays down the responsibilities of public service, Majeed Majazi leaves behind more than three decades of memories in classrooms and an enduring body of literary work.

His retirement marks the end of an illustrious chapter in the Education Department, but his writings, plays and contribution to Kashmiri literature will continue to illuminate the path for aspiring writers, teachers and readers alike.
