Srinagar, July 06 (KNS): Cracking whip upon valleys pro freedom camp, the government on Wednesday put several separatist leaders including Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik and DFP chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah under detention.
The separatists had unanimously called for protests against governments proposed move for the establishment of separate colonies for migrant pundits and former soldiers.
Exhibiting joint resistance against what they termed nefarious designs of the coalition of changing Kashmir’s topography. The separatists had called for protest after congregational Eid prayers.
As the news about the detention of the separatist leaders spreading valley, youth after congregational Eid prayers assembled in groups at various places and hurled stones at Forces’ deployment. The clashes were reported from the summer capital Srinagar, south Kashmir’s various hamlets and also in north Kashmir.
Several Police personnel and protestors were injured during the protests.
The Police spokesman stated that police exhibited maximum restraint and strived for the maintenance of law and order.
Meanwhile according to police spokesman, Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated throughout the Kashmir Zone with great fervor and enthusiasm. Eid congregations were held in the nooks and corners of the Kashmir. Elaborate security arrangements were made and almost all the congregations dispersed off peacefully. However, miscreants indulged in stone pelting at some places including Main Chowk and Batapora Sopore, Hyderpora, Iddgah Srinagar and Ashaji Pora Anantnag. Police and Security forces exercised maximum restraint. Twenty one Police and SF personnel including two Police officers and four others were injured. Situation is normal throughout Kashmir.
