GCET Safapora Concludes 3 Day Workshop for Eligible Voters

Srinagar, Feb 28: The NSS wing of Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) concluded the workshop on Capacity Building in Voter Education under the theme "Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure," aimed at educating and empowering eligible student voters for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

An official spokesperson of the institution said the programme was part of Systematic Voter's Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP).

The event held in the college Seminar Hall was attended by students and faculty members. The program commenced with an inaugural address by the college principal, highlighting the significance of active participation in the electoral process for the growth and development of the nation.

A lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor Mathematics and College NSS Wing Programme Officer Sameer Ahmad, sharing insights about the electoral process, emphasizing the rights and responsibilities of voters.

 Besides the inaugural function, quiz and essay competitions were also held as part of the campaign inside the main campus. A good number of students participated in both competitions.

Spokesperson further stated that the competitions equipped students with essential knowledge about the electoral process, their rights and responsibilities as voters, and the significance of active participation in the democratic process.

He said the primary objective of the program was to educate eligible student voters about their pivotal role in shaping the democratic landscape of the nation. By providing them with valuable insights into the electoral process and encouraging active participation, the aim was to foster a sense of civic responsibility and engagement among the youth.

The training program included interactive sessions where students had the opportunity to engage in discussions, ask questions, and clarify doubts regarding the electoral process. Master Trainer Mudasir Ahmad from Election Office Ganderbal, Prof. (Er.) Abdul Rouf Khan, Principal GCET Kashmir were the Guests of Honour. 

Mudasir Ahmad elucidated various aspects of the Indian electoral system, including voting procedures, and the significance of informed decision-making. He highlighted the importance of voter registration, casting informed votes, and the role of youth in shaping the future through active political participation.

Ahmad emphasised the role of critical thinking and media literacy in evaluating political discourse and making informed electoral choices. Asrar-ul-Haq, student and NSS Wing volunteer, provided insights into the power of language and communication in shaping public opinion during elections.

Later, an interactive session was conducted where participants had the opportunity to ask questions and clarify their doubts regarding the electoral process. Various topics such as voting procedures, voter identification, electoral roll verification, and the significance of free and fair elections were discussed during the program.

Facilitators encourage active participation, ensuring that students gain a deeper understanding of the electoral process.
