Army distributes Solar Lights, Cold Climate Amenities to tribal communities in Kishtwar

Kishtwar: Feb 19: Indian Army stationed in Kishtwar district on Monday distributed solar lights and other cold climate amenities to tribal communities in the district.

An official spokesperson said during recent interactions with Gujjar and Bakkarwal community at Chichha, Kishtwar, the residents had requested for provision of solar lights and cold climate amenities to be distributed due to lack of proper supply of electricity and inclement weather in the region.

He said following the request, army responded to the call of locals and the initiative was carried out by Indian Army, Dul under Operation Sadbhavna.

Spokesperson added that the scarcity of electricity during harsh weather in Chaillai Kalan period makes life very difficult severely affecting the lives of Gujjar/Bakarwal community.

He said with the distribution of solar lights and cold climate amenities, a total of 30 residents were benefitted. “The continuous and relentless efforts of Indian Army towards conduct of such campaign has been greatly appreciated and lauded by the inhabitants, senior citizens and other prominent personalities”.

He said people have conveyed their heartiest wishes to Indian Army and also thanked them for distribution of necessary amenities during the winters. 

“With decline in insurgency and prevailing peace in the area, the populace is now keen to improve their standard of living”.  

Defence spokesperson said Kishtwar district is an under developed remote area which has no visible development due to social backwardness prevalent in the resident populace and turmoil in the social circles due to activities of ANEs. Kishtwar district being located in one of the remote parts of Jammu & Kashmir, lacks basic amenities and infrastructure for livelihood.
