SAKHI- OSC B’pora celebrates Int’l womens Day

Bandipora, March 08: SAKHI – One Stop Centre, Bandipora in collaboration with District Administration Bandipora on Wednesday organised a day long function to celebrate International Women Day with an aim to  sensitize masses regarding the importance of women and women rights here  at Conference Hall, District De-Addiction Centre DDAC Bandipora.

The programme was organised by MISSION SHAKTI SAKHI – One Stop Centre, Bandipora & District Hub for Empowerment of Women Bandipora and was attended by Officials from various departments including Education, Mission SHAKTI, Mission Vatsalya, POSHAN, DHEW, OSC, CWC, CCI, ICDS etc, Members of Women’s Committee, Members of JKSWM, BBBP, Girl students from various educational institutions of the district, female employees and local women of the district.

On the occasion, Malik Tabinda, Protection Officer, DCPU, Bandipora said that the female folk must realise their importance and role in society. She said the women who have achieved success in various fields of life must act as ambassadors to guide other women to utilise their potential in a proper way. She has presented detailed information about various rights of women and laws enacted by the government.
Sumaya Muzaffar, Gender Specialist, District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Bandipora while highlighting the importance of International Women's Day said girls and women are important stakeholders of society and it is our collective responsibility to take care of girl child for the empowerment of women. Sumaya  informed the audience about various women centric schemes being implemented by the government.

While speaking on the occasion, Jawahar Ahmad, Supervisor, DDAC Bandipora highlighted the objectives of the programme and said we must encourage girls and women for socio, economic and political development of society.

On the said occasion, Afshana Hassan, Psycho-Social Counselor, One Stop Centre, Bandipora deliberated that every year on 8th March, the International Women's Day celebrated and International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.  She also highlighted This year's theme, “Embrace The Equity.”, let’s seize the opportunity to reimagine a better world inspired by wonderful women – energized and recognised, counted and invested in.

Jameela Akhter, Case Worker, OSC on the occasion, said “We at Sakhi One Stop Centre Bandipora are regularly dealing with women issues , most of them constitute  violence based cases and some gender inequality besides cyber crime and other assault cases. Every violence based case seems similar to a common person but when we analyze these Every case has a different story and every issue has different faces. Though these cases seem similar, the level of violence and the way of the assailant, tells different stories. One gets shocked at learning, to what extent our society has degraded itself!” She added.

While highlighting the activities/ functioning of SAKHI – One Stop Centre, Bandipora under MISSION SHAKTI,  Ishrat Ayoub, Centre Administrator, OSC, Bandipora, said several awareness programmes and women centric sensitization workshops were held this year by District Administration and other line departments besides distributing pamphlets and holding several activities to sensitize the people about gender equality. Ishrat while highlighting the role of OSC Bandipora said that since 2020 till date OSC Bandipora has registered 302 cases of Domestic Violence, out of which 244 have been successfully and satisfactorily solved, 58 are under process, 6 FIR's have been lodged, 10 women victims including a non local woman have been provided sufficient shelter with all facilities whereas more than 276 awareness programmes at various areas of the district have been organized by OSC Bandipora.  She said "Many citations and awards at District Level have been awarded to  OSC till date for its performance and last year on International Women's Day 2022 at Tagore Hall, Srinagar, One Stop Centre, Bandipora has been awarded with UT Level Best Performance Award.

During the said event, many other speakers enumerated different topics related to International Women's Day.

Speaking on the occasion, Sameena Shafi, DDAC said  "The success or failure of women related to a strategy at the gross-root level depends upon the active participation in the decision making process." "If the goal of women equality has to be achieved, people's participation, especially women participation is a prerequisite for it” she added to his speech as concluding remarks.  

A warm vote of thanks to all the participants and to the District Administration Bandipora was presented by  Nighat Nageen, Coordinator, DDAC, Bandipora who also mentioned the worth role and support by its Implementing Agency – JKSWM, while as the entire programme was hosted as Dice In charge  Mehnaza Rasool, CW, OSC Bandipora.
During the said programme, baby kits were also distributed among various lactating women of the district. The programme was highly appreciated and lauded by all the participants, who hope that with the vision and mission of District Administration, Bandipora about women related issues, the women really see a new horizon of hope – Embrace the Equity.
