Bandipora, April 19: The residents of Sonawari Tehsil are up in arms against the government for failing to repair its roads which are at the verge of ruins as successive governments have failed to repair the roads.
Residents told Kashmir Convener that the road connecting Hajin with Bandipora is in ruins from past several years as according to them government has turned blind eye towards their pleas. They said road has become horrible for transporters in general and locals in particular over the past few years.
The road which is the only road link between Hajin and Bandipora passes through villages like Rakhi-e-Hajin, Paribal, Sadunara , Chak-e-Paribal. The residents say large potholes are visible at kilometres thus troubling the local population and affecting the vehicular movement.
Our children prefer to walk kilometres on foot to reach school as public transport hardly plies on thus road now, said Sheikh Rayees Ahmad.
“Sometimes we prefer to walk miles on foot instead of travelling in a bus, one of the local residents Bashir Ahmad said,” in case of medical emergency, our patients suffer huge problems as the bumpy roads not only add to the miseries but also delays the treatment as patient reach hospital late.
Locals said they approached different government agencies including DC Bandipora with a prayer to get their grievance redressed but in vain.
Locals said during elections they were promised better roads and they truned up in large number at the time of polls with the hope that their grievances are met. But now we feel we are being punished for voting in large numbers. Every road on the constituency is dilapidated, they said.
Locals threaten agitation if the road are not repaired. When contacted Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Sajad Hussain Ganaie he said the same came to his notice several times acknowledging that the road is in worst condition . I assured you now that we will start work on it very soon, he said adding that he has recently visited the area and took stock of the situation. Executive Engineer Sumbal Javid Iqbal said Hajin Bangar Mohalla road which comes under the R& B department is basically a low lying area and road gets damaged owing retention of water. He said proposal had already sent to the concerned agencies for permanent restoration of the road.
