Bandipora has been famous for three A’s -Alim, Adab and Aaab (Education, Literature and Water. Over the years all three got severely damaged owing to obvious reasons- political neglect. Every major project got either delayed or ruined by political tussle or indifferent attitude by the successive regimes. Never in past seven decades, Bandipora has been given any major project smoothly but they have literally snatched their rights be it establishment of Government degree College, Construction of District Hospital, Patushai Grid Station and Srinagar-Bandipora road-the lifeline of Bandipora economy. However, during the past couple of years, Bandipora district has witnessed a new dawn of development with major projects taken into hands by the administration besides completing all the above mentioned languishing projects. Srinagar-Bandipora road is for the first time fully macadamized while record kilometers of inner roads have been macadamized every year in the district after 2019 that has never been done in the recent past. The people have a hope with the Lieutenant Governor administration that their public issues will be resolved without any political bias that was the norm in the past. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited Bandipora district today and several met public delegations who raised several public demands. The major issues that Bandipora is facing are its main road links- especially Srinagar-Bandipora-Gurez road that needs to be widened and given national highway status. The District Hospital Bandipora is still having the manpower equal to Sub-District Hospital while in the education sector there is a dire need of a separate women’s College in Bandipora district. Restoring Wullar lake to revive tourism is one sector that can guarantee employment and subsequent upliftment of the socio-economic sector of Bandipora district. Government needs to take these short term and long term measures to give relief to the people of Bandipora who have always sided with the government in critical times but have been ignored thereafter in past.
