Election Commission getting ready for holding Assembly & Lok Sabha poll in Anantnag

Jammu,April 7 :- With the formation of a PDP-BJP coalition Government the field has been left open for the Election Commission for holding by-poll in Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency and fresh election in Anantnag Assembly constituency.

While the Lok Sabha seat has fallen vacant after Mehbooba Mufti agreed to lead the coalition Government and that of the Anantnag Assembly seat has fallen vacant after the demise of Mufti Mohd.Sayeed.

In fact the Election Commission was in a fix.Since Mehbooba was tipped to lead the coalition Government he prolonged delay in taking the oath had left the Election Commission in  two minds.Should it hold election for the Anantnag Assembly seat which had fallen
vacant owing to the demise of Mufti Sayeed or should it link the Assembly poll with the Lok Sabha election ?  Now as Chierf Minister Mehbooba has removed all doubts in the mind of the members of the Election Commission. The Commission can now
hold the Assembly as well as the Lok Sabha poll together.
The Commission has to fix the schedule which does not interfere
with the ensuing annual Amarnath yatra and the  start of the tourist
season. The annual Yatra is to start from July 2 and hence the month of
July and middle of August is expected to remain a busy schedule with
the yatris. The tourist season is to start from May.

Political leaders favour holding of the poll in middle of August.Another issue that keeps politicians on the t enterhooks is whether Mehbooba  plans to contest the Assembly election from Anantnag
or opt for  a seat in the Legislative Council. The second issue, yet
unresolved,is who  from the PDP will contest the Lok Sabha poll from
Anantnag constituency ?Will it be Mehboob Beg,who before joining the
PDP,had successfully contested the  Lok Sabha poll from Anantnag on NC
ticket ?
If left to the coalition Government it would opt for delayed election process so that it gets time for resolving various problems of people which would help the PDP to regain the ground that it had
lost.
