Hajin, March 30: A New Type Primary Health Center (NTPHC) government hospital in Hajin is running from a rented building since 1960 as government failed to construct building for the hospital.

The hospital has been running from 3 rooms in an Auqaf Building on the rental basis since 1960. Locals said the dispensary was established in 1960 and was upgraded after 48 years in 2008 to NTPHC.

Locals said after up gradation, the then speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone laid the foundation of a building for the hospital at an estimated cost of 93 lacs at Amchi Kundal Baharabad in Hajin Tehsil.

The agitated residents said even after eight years, the government failed to construct 18 rooms for the hospital due to which the state government id denying healthcare to the people of the Hajin villages.

As per the records, the total estimated amount to be spent on the
building is more than 93 lacs but till now 50 lacs have been
utilised this building.

The hospital covers the vast area of population including Markundal,
Khomina, Tengpora, Baharabad besides some other adjoining areas as
well

Abdul Qayoom Bhat-a local residents said they approached concerned department umpteen times but no action has been taken by the authorities on ground.

Locals said in  absence of the hospital locals have to shift their patients to Srinagar or Bandipora for minor ailments.

At present the dispensary has the total faculty of 6 members including a
lady doctor, General physician and a Pharmacist.
Executive Engineer R&B Javid Iqbal cried for lack of funds. He said the construction is taking place in district sector and funds are coming in instalments from district sector.

He said a year before he requested for 43 lacs from district authorities but in response government sanctioned and provided a meagre amount of 1.62 lacs only which can do nothing for the said building.
Chief Planning Officer Bandipora  Abdul Majeed said there are more than 7 buildings whose construction is in midway in the district with an amount  around of 12 crores but only they get 6 crores so far since 2008 and half of the amount is still pending.

He also said that under this scheme the district receives only 52 lacs per
year to be utilised for all of these buildings which are distributed to
all of these under construction buildings.

Chief Medical Officer Bandipora Bilkees Mir  while talking to Kashmir Convener said they are short of funds and have talked to different agencies but in response no attention was given to her plea.
