Legislator accuses Army Major of torturing a youth

Demands action against ‘guilty’

Handwara, March 26, CNS:   Independent MLA representing Langate in state legislature Saturday demanded stern action against the Army Major for torturing innocent 18 year old Sajad Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Ahad Bhat of Zafarkhani and “injuring him”.

In a statement to CNS Rasheed alleged that the company commander of 6RR stationed at Kukroosa Handwara has been very often harassing the inhabitants of the area and the movement of civilians in the area has become terrible.

“The said officer cordoned the village Zafarkhani during night and started search operations early morning claiming presence of militants in the village. He took few youth along with him for the search operation and after finding nothing the said officer hurdled abuses at them and took one Sajad Ahmad Bhat s/o Abdul Ahad Bhat to the nearby house. However, when after search operations nothing was found in the village the said officer subjected Sajad to third degree torture and put a piece of cloth in his mouth and started beating him up, which resulted in bleeding and after protest by the locals Sajad was shifted to district hospital Handwara where from doctors seeing his critical condition referred him to Srinagar for further treatment.”

Rasheed demanded immediate, stern and time bound action against the said army officer and added that “these dirty and inhuman acts will not lower down moral of Kashmiris who are being treated worst than animals”. (CNS)
