Kupwara, January 01: The Cooperative Societies of Kupwara District witnessed a record increase of 31.48 percent in business this year. The Societies did a business of Rs 7.14 Cr this year compared to last year’s business of Rs 5.43 Cr.
This was given out in a meeting convened by Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies Muzaffar Ahmad Mirza and District Audit Officer Sheikh Bashir Ahmad to review the progress of the department and the cooperative societies.
The meeting was informed that the 43 Cooperative Societies registered in the district recorded a business of Rs 7.14 Cr from January 2020-December 2020. Giving details, the officers informed that the Consumer Cooperatives recorded Rs 4.30 Cr business besides selling 21198 quintals of fertilizers at the cost of Rs 2.35 Cr, poultry at the cost of Rs 45.52 lakh and diary at the cost of Rs 3.22 lakhs.
It was given out that during the last year, the cooperatives recorded Rs 5.43 Cr business thus increasing of Rs 1.71 Cr business.
On the occasion District Audit Officer informed the meeting that there are 43 Cooperative Societies registered in the district including 5 cooperative marketing societies, 14 multi-purpose agriculture cooperative societies, 5 poultry cooperative societies, 3 diary cooperative societies and Tribal Sale and Service Cooperative Societies each and 2 Sale and Service Cooperative Societies.
Officers informed that 30 Cooperative Societies have been audited so far while audit of 13 cooperative societies is in progress.
On the occasion Mirza appreciated the performance of the Cooperative Societies and urged them to continue to do the business with extra zeal. He assured every possible support to the cooperative societies to ensure they excel their business next year. He said the cooperative societies play an important role in providing essential commodities to the people at cheaper rates including fertilizers to the orchardists and poultry.
