Bandipora, Oct 24 : Massive fire in Khuihama range forests in North Kashmir’s Bandipora District on Saturday afternoon.
The fire broke out in the afternoon and has spread to a vast area as the concerned officials failed to douse the flames on time.
“Fire erupted in compartment No. 22 in Khayar area falling under Kuihama forest range of Bandipora and is spreading fast."
The locals said that the compartment under fire is very dense in Bandipora division.
An officer said that a team of officials and workers of the department have reached the spot to douse fire.
“We are trying our best to control the fire and have so far succeeded in stopping it from spreading to the adjoining areas," he said.
Locals alleged that the concerned officials and the divisional forest officer Bandipora have been very callous regarding these forest fires as earlier fire incidents were reported from several areas of Bandipora division.
They said that the department has failed to take measures to prevent these fire incidents from happening and save the precious forest wealth.(PTK)
