Govt orders probe in ‘illegal’ dumping of expired medicine in ANMT Bandipora

Bandipora, July 22: The Government on Monday orders probe in the dumping of expired medicines at Ancillary Medical Training College (ANMT) that was exposed by Traders Federation Bandipora.

         After the expose, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora constituted a 3-member committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora to inquire in to the matter.

In an order issued on Monday, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza constituted the inquiry committee with Medical Superintendent Bandipora and designated officer Food Safety as its members.

        The committee has been asked to thoroughly inquire into the matter and submit the report to the Deputy Commissioner within  one week.

Meanwhile Chief Medical Officer Bandipora has also constituted an in-house inquiry committee headed by District Health Officer Bandipora. The 5-member committee members will include Deputy Chief Medical Officer Bandipora, a consultant physician, Section Officer CMO office and District Store Keeper as its members.

On 20th of July  the members of Traders Federation Bandipora barged into the ANMT school Bandipora and found a huge quantity of expired drugs dumped on the terrace of ANMT School in Nussu Bandipora district. The Traders raided the building after getting leads about the presence of drugs in the school as the same drugs were being denied to patients in the hospital especially drugs meant for pregnant ladies. 

        Earlier, medicines of worth lakhs belonging to government supply were recovered from a local medical shop in Bandipora earlier this year.

The locals expressed shock over the issue, saying that the people are being deprived of the medicines while as the officials fail to distribute the medicines on time. Locals said there is a nexus between the officials of Health Department and private pharmacists as at many occasion free medical supply was recovered from private Pharmacists. 

"It is a crime  and should be seen like that, " Said the locals demanding FIR against the culprits. "Such people are threat to the public safety and should be dealt with stringent laws so that no one dares to  do it again, " said President Traders Federation Shamshad Ahmad.
