Rs. 12000 realized from erring shopkeepers during market checking in Budgam
‘Drive to continue to curb overcharging, sale of sub-standard food items during Ramzan: ADC Budgam
Budgam, May 09: On the directions of District Development Commissioner, Budgam Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar, a joint team of market checking squad led by ADC Budgam, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani today conducted a rigorous market checking drive at main market Budgam and realized fine of Rs. 12000 from erring shopkeepers.
The squad comprised officers including, AD FCS&CA, Najwan Nazki, Dy.SP Headquarter Budgam, Feroz Yehya, EO Municipal Committee Budgam, Anees Chowdary, District Officers of LMD, Weights and Measures, SHO Budgam, and officials from other concerned departments. The joint team conducted surprise check of various shops including vegetable and fruit selling outlets, restaurants, drug stores, milkmen and butcher shops, road side vendors and general stores and realized fine of Rs. 12000 from the erring shopkeepers for overcharging and for violating Food Standard and Safety Act and government approved rate list.
The squad also conducted food quality and expiry tests on various food items during the checking and fined erring traders for indulging in selling sub-standard food items.
The checking team also removed the encroachments on footpaths at various spots and warned strict action against the shopkeepers and vendors for indulging in such illegal practices.
On the occasion ADC Budgam, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani said that the drive will continue on regular basis across all district markets to keep check on traders and shopkeepers for indulging in overcharging particularly during the month of Ramzan. He said that Tehsil level market checking teams have been also constituted which will also continue conducting market checking daily to curb overpricing, black marketing and ensure quality of eatables sold in markets in their jurisdictions.
The ADC said that strict action as per the law will be taken against shopkeepers or vendor for indulging in overcharging, hoarding or selling sub-standard food items anywhere in the district.
