Army rescues pregnant lady during Heavy snowfall; delivers twin in Srinagar Hospital
Bandipora, February 11: The Indian Army came to the rescue of a pregnant lady in Panar during heavy snowfall on Thursday as the soldiers carried her on stretchers upto the hospital when she felt the labor pain.
On 7 Feb, the company commander of Panar army camp of Bandipore Rashtriya Rifles received a call from a distressed villager asking for help in evacuating his pregnant wife Ghulshana Begum (35) W/O Abdullah Chechi Resident of Rather Mohalla, Panar village.
“The weather conditions were precarious as it was snowing heavily and the temperature was minus seven. The snow had covered the roads, making it impossible for vehicular movement. Nevertheless the lady needed to get to a hospital,” said Commanding Officer 14 Rashtriya Rifles stationed at Sonarwani.
“The men of the Bandipore Rashtriya Rifles braved heavy snow and zero road accessibility reached the residence of the lady in no time and carried her on a stretcher for two and a half Kms in waist deep snow,” he added. An Army ambulance was waiting at the road head from where she was taken to the District hospital Bandipore.
Understanding the need for timely coordination with every minute that counts; the Army had already tied up with civil authorities and arranged for doctors at the hospital. After a check-up, it was conveyed that the lady was pregnant with twins and required a caesarean for which she was further transferred to Srinagar hospital.
Thanks to the quick reaction and assistance by the army, the lady safely delivered twin baby girls the same night. Needless to say, the lady's family along with the villagers, were extremely thankful to the officer & jawans for helping the lady to safely bring two angels into the world.
