NUAPADA, November 3: A 30-year-old scholar from Odisha’s Sambalpur district has completed his PhD and secured an academic position after receiving financial assistance under the National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste Students (NFSC) scheme of the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

Dr Anirudh Pradhan (name changed) began receiving fellowship assistance on December 27, 2019. The support included a monthly fellowship of Rs 31,000, along with contingency assistance, which helped him meet the financial requirements of doctoral research.

According to the Ministry, financial constraints and limited access to academic guidance had posed challenges to his pursuit of higher education.

With the fellowship support, Pradhan was able to focus on his research and successfully complete his PhD. He is currently working as an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Model Degree College, Nuapada, Khariar, Odisha, with a basic pay of Rs 63,000.

The NFSC scheme is intended to support Scheduled Caste students pursuing higher studies by providing financial assistance for research and doctoral education.

Pradhan’s academic journey highlights the role of fellowship support in helping students from financially constrained backgrounds pursue advanced studies and access professional opportunities.
