New Delhi, October 14: A 31-year-old man from Assam’s Nagaon district has moved towards financial independence after receiving counselling and rehabilitation support from a District De-Addiction Centre, highlighting the role of sustained care in recovery from substance use.

According to the Defence Spokesperson, Ranjit Das (name changed) received assistance from the District De-Addiction Centre in Nagaon on March 3, 2026. The centre provided counselling, psychological support, medical referrals, awareness sessions and life-skills education.

Family counselling and regular follow-up services were also part of the support provided to help sustain his recovery.

Das had faced financial difficulties, unemployment and limited access to vocational training. Social stigma, low self-confidence and difficulties accessing healthcare and counselling had added to his challenges, the PIB release said.

With continued support and family encouragement, he regained confidence and became self-employed. He now earns at least ₹10,000 a month, helping improve his family’s financial stability, according to the release.

The case highlights the role of District De-Addiction Centres in providing counselling, rehabilitation and follow-up support to people affected by substance use, while helping them work towards social and economic reintegration.

Das’s experience also underlines the importance of family participation and livelihood opportunities in supporting recovery and long-term independence.
