Srinagar, September 24: Kashmir Medical College (KMC), Sempora, has announced free surgical treatment for cancer patients for a limited period as part of its foundation month celebrations, beginning September 28.
An official spokesperson said the initiative is being offered under the institution’s “Together Against Cancer” campaign and will cover surgical treatment for various cancers, including stomach, oesophageal, colon, pancreatic, liver, biliary tract, breast and thyroid cancers. Treatment will also be available for adrenal tumours and other solid tumours, according to KMC officials.
Officials told Kashmir Convener that the initiative will be supported by the college’s surgical team, operation theatres and critical-care facilities. They said cancer cases will be managed through a multidisciplinary approach involving surgical, oncology, radiology, pathology and supportive-care teams.
Patients undergoing surgery will also receive peri-operative and follow-up care, along with rehabilitation support where required, officials said.
KMC officials said the initiative is aimed at making specialised cancer surgery more accessible to patients and encouraging timely diagnosis and treatment.
Eligible patients have been invited to register for the limited-period initiative at the Surgical OPD of Kashmir Medical College, Sempora.
